Lecture Title: A Return to the Basics to Chart a New Course in Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology Development, Evaluation, and Implementation

Dr. Rosalie Wang, PhD, OT Reg. (Ont.), Associate Professor, Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, University of Toronto; Faculty Fellow at the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society; Affiliate Scientist at KITE - Toronto Rehabilitation Institute – University Health Network (AI and Robotics in Rehabilitation Research Team). 

Dr. Rosalie Wang received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy at the University of British Columbia (Canada) in 1998, and her PhD in Rehabilitation Science in collaboration with Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto (Canada) in 2011. She is a registered Occupational Therapist in Ontario (Canada) and has previously worked as a therapist in Canada and England in long-term residential care, homecare, subacute rehabilitation, and acute care. Dr. Wang’s research focuses on developing and implementing technology to enable daily activity participation and social inclusion of persons living with disabilities and seniors. She is leading research in technology for post-stroke rehabilitation, the use of information and communication technologies by seniors with cognitive impairments, the implications of AI-enabled care technologies on social and health care ecosystems of seniors and caregivers, and the potential for assistive technology bundles as a service delivery approach in the management of dementia. As an AGE-WELL investigator she co-led the most comprehensive project on enhancing equitable access to assistive technologies in Canada. Her research applies mixed methods and user-centred design approaches, and she has a special interest in methodologies to develop, evaluate, and implement rehabilitation and assistive technologies.
